Mark asks…
what tablet is best for an 11 year old? nook or kindle?
what tablet is best for an 11 year old? nook tablet or kindle fire? what has the best games? any other tablets that are just as good in the $200 area? what are the pros/cons? any help would be greatly appreciated! thanx!

Stan answers:
Hi hothead, did you know that you can actually get refurbished Nook Color for $139 on OverStock.com or in official B&N store on eBay.com with one year warranty and that Nook Color now streams Netflix movies and got a lot of apps (Angry Birds, etc.)? If you can find extra $50 you should get Nook Tablet that is Nook Color 2 – is the best and been getting rave pro reviews on the web and it is the best device in it’s class – much better than Kindle Fire. It’s got Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Angry Brids, etc., the best battery life (30% Better), the best non-glare laminated screen (visibly noticeable difference in side by side tests in video playback and eBooks reading), double the RAM and space for apps/photos/movies, microSD slot (not on Kindle) and a microphone for Skype (not on Kindle), and much zippier performance during video playback and apps usage than choppy/laggy act of Kindle Fire according to many user reviews. Also, it’s been reported that many Kindle Fire units have faulty Wi-Fi and people have a lot of issues connecting to internet according to many user reviews. Amazon’s own web site has hundreds (more than 1800 now) of reviews of Kindle Fire’s new owners that gave it 1 or 2 star reviews because of choppy/laggy experience they got from this underpowered device. Other issues are that it runs hot to touch, video playback is jerky, touch screen is not responsive and it takes 2-3 touches to register, power button placement is very poor and is prone to accidental power off, all the hype of Silk browser is a myth where the browsing is actually slower than on other Android tablets, etc.

George asks…
how do you turn down the volume on a kindle fire?
when i play games the volume is really loud and i can’t find any buttons to turn down the volume. the only game that has the option to turn off the volume is fruit ninja. how do i turn it off?

Stan answers:
Click the home button at the bottom.
Look for the settings icon (gear) on the upper right.
From there, you’ll find settings for brightness, volume, etc.
Or, you can use the headphone jack.

Charles asks…
Is there any form of volume control on the kindle fire?
when I’m listening to music or playing games, is there any kind of volume control on the kindle fire??!!

Stan answers:
Hi Nicole, very good question! Kindle Fire does not have a physical volume control thus to adjust the volume you need to get into the menus and use touch screen every time – EXTREMELY inconvenient!
Other issues with Fire are that it runs hot to touch, video playback is jerky, touch screen is not responsive and it takes 2-3 touches to register, power button placement is very poor and is prone to accidental power off, all the hype of Silk browser is a fake where the browsing is actually slower than on other Android tablets, etc.
Take a look instead at recently released Nook Tablet – it’s been getting rave reviews and it is the best device in it’s class – much better than Kindle Fire. It’s got Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Angry Brids, etc., the best battery life (30% better than Fire), the best non-glare laminated screen (vs. Very reflective not-laminated Fire screen), double the RAM and space for apps/photos/movies, microSD slot, a microphone for Skype, and physical volume controls on the side (neither of those on Kindle Fire), very smooth video playback with excellent screen, and very fast apps load.

Michael asks…
I just got a kindle fire and i need help buying the online book?
I was on amazon.com on my kindle and bought hunger games and it told me that it will be shoped on Dec 29. I want to download the book onto my kindle not buy the book and have it shipped..help!!!!!

Stan answers:
You have to make sure you buy the kindle version, not the physical version. If you bought the wrong one, I suggest cancelling your order, and then making sure you are searching the kindle store section and it says “download to my kindle” on the right hand side, and then purchase it again.
